Congratulations to the University of Illinois Marching Illini band for winning a major award in a special Metallica contest.

A couple of years ago, Metallica started a college marching band competition. They realized that many school bands cover their music, so they wanted to see who could do it the best. Plus, it really helps out these music programs. I'm a big fan of when marching bands pick out rock songs to play.

The Marching Illini entered the Metallica contest. The U of I band had an impressive showing. In division one size schools, they finished 3rd, which earned them $10,000 in prizes. It gets even better for those students. The Champaign school was also voted the fan favorite. That gets them $10,000 more in prizes. How cool is it that a college from Illinois did so well?
