You Won’t Believe What Word is Most Mispelled in Illinois

Every day, we deal with phones and computers taking care of our spelling problems for us, most of the time without us even realizing that the auto-correct is doing its job. We've gone from being literary in our society, to where now, I didn't even spell society correctly and my autocorrect took care of it.

Google Trends tracks what people are searching on Google, and they released their latest study - the most misspelled words by state, and this year the answers were pretty shocking.

The trend was measured by the location of where people search "How do you spell..." and whatever word is most searched from that state. Here's what they found:

What Word Does The Entire Country Struggle With?

Over the last year, the word the United States struggled to spell the most was "Excited," which is a good thing, because the last year's most asked word was 'quarantine.'

What About Our Neighbors to the West, in Nebraska?

One thing about Nebraska, is its known for its beautiful mountains and.. wait, this is Nebraska. What's so 'beautiful' in Nebraska that so many people have to look it up?

Minnesota, our Northernmost Neighbors

Either there's a spike in celebrities moving to the great state of Minnesota, or there's some Lady Gaga fans that are having a hard time finding their favorite song.

Wisconsin

I hate to say it, but apparently, most of Wisconsin does most of their spelling searches during Big 10 football games.

Missouri

Missouri is the home of sweet stuff - or there's a lot more sand laying around than I remember because people are looking up how to spell dessert, hopefully, to double-check they're not talking about sandy deserts.

West Virginia

They're not one of our neighbors, but I mention them because West Virginia has a serious problem. The state's most searched "How do I spell" phrase is the name of their own state.

Iowa

In the days when everyone is saying "Cuz" when referring to their friends or as a shorter way of saying "because," it's important to know that when you're talking about your cousins, that's who you're talking about.

Illinois

Hopefully, the people of Illinois are higher up in the rankings for long-lasting relationships, and they're just checking their spelling on their anniversary cards.
