If you're a Rockford resident who has a basement or storage shed full of old electronics to get rid of, I have some good and bad news for you.

Let's get the bad news out of the way first. Starting July 4, 2017,  the blue storage containers located at the Kelly Williamson Mobil locations at 7250 E State St. and 550 South Rock Drive in Rockford will no longer be accepting old electronics for recycling. Bummer. Many of my old televisions and computer monitors have found their final resting place at these recycling drop-offs, and I'm sad to see the convenience go. Before you freak out about how to get rid of your e-waste from now on, let's get you the good news.

Starting July 8, 2017, Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful's recycling center on Hydraulic Road in Rockford will be taking residents' electronics for recycling, AND we'll be able to place small electronics into the recycling bins with our weekly trash pick-up. Whew! Crisis averted.
