The dreaded traffic ticket. Many of us have been on the receiving end of one (or several), even though we had lots of really great excuses, and there were plenty of maniacs out there driving a lot faster than we were, and, and....tell it to the judge.

I have had one speeding ticket in 30-plus years of driving. The thing that makes my ticket notable (in my mind) is that I got that ticket for driving 56mph in a 55mph zone. That's right, I got a ticket for driving one mile an hour over the posted speed limit. Does that still annoy me? Yes, but not very much because I do realize that there were plenty of other times that I could've/should've gotten a ticket, but didn't. Life has a way of balancing things out.

Car insurance shopping website Insurance.com recently posted their list of the most ticketed cars on the road today, and while some of the cars listed should surprise no one, there are a few head-scratchers on the list.

Some of Insurance.com's criteria:

Insurance.com said it reviewed insurance claims and traffic violation data from 331 models and 323,349 customers between Jan. 1, 2014 to Feb. 1, 2016 to compile the numbers. The rankings were then calculated on models for which more than 250 quotes were sought to make sure a significant sample size was available. The website did not distinguish the cars and trucks by model year, nor did it include only new cars.

So, here are the top ten most ticketed cars, along with the percentage of drivers who found themselves with a ticket in their hand (list courtesy of MLive.com):

1. Lexus ES 300 – 33%
2. Nissan 350Z – 33%
3. Dodge Charger SE/SXT – 32%
4. Volkswagen Jetta GL– 31%
5. Chevrolet Monte Carlo LS/LT – 31%
6. Mazda 3S – 30%
7. Volkswagen GTI – 30%
8. Dodge Stratus SXT – 30%
9. Acura 3.0s – 30%
10. Toyota Tacoma – 30%

Okay, assuming that you have to get a ticket, do you want to get one driving a Volkswagen Jetta GL? No, of course you don't.

If you have to get a ticket:
