This summer in Rockford, these tips will help protect from mosquitoes.

Lots of rain in the spring means many mosquitoes in the summer.

In fact, they are already out in full force. I took my garbage out earlier this week and got eaten alive.

Have you ever noticed everyone has there own solutions for how to keep from being bitten? Sometimes they work, but usually, they don't.

From rockrivertimes.com, "NIU Extension Gives Tips To Control Mosquitoes."

  • Mosquitoes are lousy fliers, so cool days with high winds reduce activity. Placing a fan facing an outdoor seating area will keep them at bay.
  • Use DEET, 40% or higher, because it's the most effective chemical. Then apply it every 4-6 hours.
  • Remove any standing water.
  • Standing water that can't be removed should be treated with Bti (Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis).

Hopefully, these simple solutions will help you avoid mosquitoes this summer.
