Tiny Restaurant Serves Up Some of Illinois’ Low-Key Best Burgers
I went to the zoo last Saturday. While I had a good time, the fun really began when I left and went on a hunt to find something to eat.
In case you didn't know, one of the best zoos anywhere is the Brookfield Zoo. Over the Memorial Day weekend, I made plans to bring the fam there for a fun day out.
Again, the zoo was fine. I saw a rhino, a lion, and a bear, and by the time I was done walking the entire park, oh my, the belly was grumbling.
Historically, I have had an awful time picking out restaurants during family excursions. I once made a detour during a family trip to Iowa City to a pizza joint locals raved about.
Only to realize the place was actually closed when we got there.
So with a little bit of hesitation, I set the fam out again on a voyage in an unfamiliar town, Brookfield, to get something to eat after a long day of zoo'ing. That's probably not the word, but you know what I mean.
Anyway, I set my sights on a restaurant called Burger Antics. From the onset, it seemed to be a bit more on the "rock n roll tip" than other burger joints.
Having been down that road before when we visited Kuma's Corner in Schaumburg, I wanted to make sure the family was cool with the idea.
You see, we went to Kuma's a few years ago, and the music, and believe it or not, the imagery was too much for some. On the other hand, I was fine. I was there for the burger and not much else.
So after finally having everyone on board agree with Burger Antics, we set ourselves up inside the tiny restaurant.
What I didn't expect was to have one of the best burgers I've had in quite a while at this little joint.
I ordered something off of their menu called the Hotter Than Hell burger. According to the Burger Antics website, the burger consists of smoked gouda, avocado, grilled jalapeno, and house-made chipotle mayo.
It was juicy, delicious, and honestly, a little firey. The fries on the side were perfectly cooked and for the first time in a long time, I felt like I made the right choice when it came to finding the perfect restaurant.
Pro-tip: Burger Antics menu is loaded with fantastic burger options. If you are headed there for the first time, and unsure what to get, go for the slider plate. From there you can order three different "mini-versions" of their legendary burgers from the menu so you have the chance to try them all.
Burger Antics is located at 3740 Grand Boulevard in Brookfield, Illinois.
