Landmarks Illinois, has released the 2016 Most Endangered Historic Places in Illinois. It was released yesterday during a press conference in Springfield.

According to Landmarks Illinois, the purpose of the list is as follows:

The purpose of the list is to focus attention on sites threatened by deterioration, lack of maintenance, insufficient funds, or inappropriate development. By publicizing them we hope to bolster local advocacy efforts and build support towards each property’s eventual preservation. The list also draws attention to important policy issues that affect these properties and historic properties throughout the state.

Included in the list this year are three RPS 205 schools.

The three schools are Nelson, Walker and Kiswaukee Elementary Schools.

The three schools will soon be vacant and according to WTVO, the Rockford School Board's Building Disposition Committee needs input from the community to determine what will be done with the buildings.

There will be three meetings to discuss the fate of Walker. The meetings are:

April 14 at Roosevelt Community Education Center, 7 p.m.
April 20 at Walker Elementary School, 7 p.m.
May 12 at Cathedral of St. Peter, 7 p.m.

Nelson and Kiswaukee Elementary Schools' meetings will follow in the future.
