When you were young you may have been told to pull your pants up, did you listen? It sounds like a suspect in Rockford, Illinois chose not to do that.

The story is not all that humorous when the circumstances are considered. Crime and shootings are not something to joke about. The only thing that is funny is how the suspect was identified by local police.

According to the police report obtained by Eyewitness News, law enforcement received a shots-fired call at a convenience store on Rockford's west side. Surveillance video revealed a man exiting an SUV, walking into the store, leaving, and then approaching three men nearby.

The report continues; Rockford Police detectives say the suspect pulled a gun from his waistband and opened fire on the three men. The suspect ended up being shot in the leg.

This is not what he told the police though.

13 minutes after the original call to police, another call was made about a shooting victim at 15th and Woodruff, officers say nobody was there when they arrived.

Eyewitness News reports the 27-year-old male was being treated at UW SwedishAmerican but used a fake name. Police say he claimed he and his fiance had been walking on 15th when they were robbed at gunpoint and he was shot.

The underwear was the clue.

When police were reviewing surveillance of the shooting they had noticed the suspect with the gun (allegedly) was getting into the passenger side of the SUV when his pants fell down.

They were very distinct as they were white and pink in color with a blank waistband.

Police were able to get the underwear worn by the 27-year-old being treated at Swedes and guess what? The undergarment was white and pink and had a blank waistband. He's presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
