Should Illinois Fine Drivers for Lollygagging in the Left Lane?
Imagine you're driving down I90 in the left lane, you and the family are heading to Chicago for the day and you just can't get there soon enough.
There's only one problem; traffic. It doesn't seem to matter what time of day you go, or that they've raised the speed limit to 70, there always seems to be that one driver in the left lane that seems to hold everyone up.
It isn't until you've been driving behind them for what seems like an eternity that you pass them on the right, get back over into the left, and that's when it happens- they finally get over into the right lane. UGH! WHY?
We've all been there; but, there could be a solution.
According to the Journal Sentinel, the state of Virginia is now fining drivers $100 for driving too slow in the left lane, which is actually illegal there.
Seems strange right? It's against the law to drive at your own pace? Many consider it just safe driving, but in Virginia the effort to fine drivers for taking their precious time on the roads is their way of easing traffic congestion and get this- road rage.
They've also raked in $1 million dollars in fines.
We know that Illinois is always looking for ways to make an extra buck or two; could this work here? Should the state consider fining "Sunday drivers" for strolling down the tollway in the left lane?
