When the month of April is over, Rockford Police Chief Dan O'Shea will be retired. MyStateline

Chief O'Shea set the table on when his position as Rockford Police Chief would end, when he first stepped into the position. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that a certain local t.v. station somehow turned this into a "breaking news" story, like it was something that he decided a week ago...the t.v. station never backed him anyway. Too busy digging deeper, I guess...

While the search is on for the next Rockford Chief of Police (or is it) I wanted to take this time to say thank you to Chief O'Shea.

I met Chief Dan O'Shea for the first time back in 2016. Being involved in law enforcement support groups throughout the Rockford area, I was excited to meet the man that would lead this city. From the first meeting, up until the last time I spoke to him a few weeks ago...Dan has always been professional, friendly, and a pleasure to be around. Being the Chief of Police in the city of Rockford in a 24/7 job, and Mr. O'Shea lived and breathed his career.

Chief O'Shea never stopped learned, recently finishing up another "higher education" goal. I once had to introduce him at an event, and just reading his educational background took 15 of the 20 minute intro.

Always good with a handshake and a hug, Chief O'Shea was a great leader and will be missed as the leader of the Rockford Police Department. Through difficult city and nationwide events, he kept his cool and worked to make us all safer.

While I'm 100% sure I've met the next Rockford PD Chief, several times...We wait as a city for the announcement of his replacement. Thank you Chief Dan O'Shea, enjoy your retirement.
