Rolling Stones Post Alternate ‘Brown Sugar’ Featuring Eric Clapton
Among the previously unreleased tracks lined up for the Rolling Stones' newly expanded Sticky Fingers reissue, an alternate version of "Brown Sugar" featuring Eric Clapton is one of the most intriguing — and the band has posted it online days before the album lands in stores on June 9.
Recorded in December 1970 at a London studio during a birthday party for Keith Richards, this version — which you can hear above — is highlighted by some busy slide work from Clapton, as well as piano work from Al Kooper. It's just the latest in a series of pre-release tidbits from the upcoming reissue, including an acoustic version of "Wild Horses," an alternate take of "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" and an extended version of "Bitch."
The expanded and remastered Sticky Fingers isn't the only Stones-related product arriving this month. On June 22, former bassist Bill Wyman is scheduled to end a long hiatus in his solo career with the release of Back to Basics, an assortment of "unashamedly stripped back" songs that got its start after he came across a handful of old demos that inspired him to get back in the studio. "Initially I thought I’m a bit old for this," Wyman joked in a press release. "But then I thought all the old blues musicians played till they dropped, so why don’t I give it a go?"
In advance of Back to Basics' release, Wyman's label has posted the record's leadoff track, "What & How & If & When & Why," which you can check out below.
