It's the end of an era for Rockford as another past-time is no more, this time it is not a business.

Even before smartphones, you could get the current temperature with a phone but it wasn't on the screen. Rockfordians actually made a phone call to get it. And, if you're like me, you probably had this number memorized. It was Weather Phone, a.k.a. "time and temp." For Millennials, it went like this, "Amcore Bank time.... ____. Current temperature: __ degrees." I feel like it was Amcore Bank so we'll go with that, but do you remember the number? Here's a hint.

And maybe you can't recall the first time dialing that number but you probably called it many times. Personally, I can't remember a lot of phone numbers from my past but that particular phone number is forever engraved into my brain. That number? 815-968-2-3-1-1. Sady, the phone number is no-more. It truly is the end of an era.

If you can't move on in life without wanting to call a number for a temperature and weather check, there is another option. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (a.k.a.) National Weather Service) offered a free recorded weather forecast. The only problem is you have to "listen carefully to the following menu as it has changed" followed by pressing 1, then 2. That number is 815-963-8518.
