Everything about this 2020/2021 school year is a headache right now.

We've already made the tough choice of remote learning or in-person classes for our kids this year, but I think it's safe to say every parent is waiting for the other shoe to drop. We're busy obsessing over "what-ifs" and trying to be proactive about how we will rearrange our work and life schedules...again.

In mid-August the Rockford Park District released a survey that aimed to find out how many residents would be interested in a remote-learning camp or club option for their kids to attend during the 2020/2021 school year. I'm assuming the high-interest they received from this survey led to the creation of the Rockford Park District's "R2 Club".

According to the Rockford Park District's website, this R2 Club will be offered at both Alpine Hills Adventure Park and Riverview Ice House and will feature;

 a great place for your children to complete remote learning, as well as participate in enrichment and fun activities with their peers. Outdoor activities will allow for mask breaks as much as reasonably possible. Students should bring a face covering or mask, school-issued chrome book, headphones, lunch, and water bottle each day.

RPD does state that the R2 Club "is not an educational program", so it is not a place where your children will be taught by Park District staff. Staff will be there to assist and supervise the daily lessons assigned by your child's teacher or school, not to introduce new curriculum.

R2 Club runs 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at both locations each weekday RPS 205 is in session. Registration is for one week at a time, and it costs $30 per day ($150/5-day week) for each child. Register your child now, or find out more information, here.
