A Rockford man is about to learn a very important lesson.

MyStateline - 45-year-old Brenton Wells pleaded guilty to pointing a laser pointer at an aircraft over the Chicago-Rockford International Airport, potentially blinding the pilots.

Apparently, Mr. Wells was in his backyard aiming his laser pointer at airplanes. Not smart.

I don't personally know his motives. Hopefully, it wasn't malicious and he was just messing around. It serves a good purpose either way because the general public needs to understand how serious this is, and the fines DEFINITELY reflect that.

If found guilty Mr. Wells could face up to 5 years in prison and up to a $250,000 fine. Serious stuff.

Do yourself a favor and keep your laser to yourself.
