Rockford is Reforesting the Forest City with Free Trees This Weekend
Rockford has had similar campaigns in previous years but, with the two tornadoes that touched down in the Forest City, this is of greater need. Those two tornadoes did heavy damage including wiping out many trees. Even today, it is still weird seeing the gaps left behind at Rock Valley College because of the number of trees destroyed by mother nature's wrath. Because of that reason, the City of Rockford announced a free-tree campaign.
In an announcement on Facebook, the City of Rockford prefaced the damage as the reason behind this free tree initiative.
Last year, two tornadoes touched down in Rockford impacting many trees in those areas. In an effort to reforest the Forest City, the city of Rockford will be giving away potted trees this Saturday.

Rockford-area residents can pick up these potted trees from two different locations within the city on May 1st. One location will be where heavy tree damage occurred, at Rock Valley College in Lot 1, on Mulford Road. The other pickup spot will be Rockford Police Department District 2 at 1410 broadway. These trees are free and available from 8 am - 2 pm or until they are all gone.
I'm not trying to be a cheapskate here but maybe snag of those free trees for mom to plant with her kids or grandkids. Think of the memories that would create and live on for decades. But, these trees are limited to one per person.
