We had some girl power overload in the best way possible with the Rockford Fire Department earlier this month.

Let's face it, when you think firefighter, you generally think men. But, there are plenty of amazing women firefighters, and the Rockford Fire Department has done something awesome to encourage more future firefighting women.

'2nd Alarm Girls Fire Camp' was held last weekend right here in Rockford. Rockford firefighter, Sheena Able spearheaded the program with one email last September, and it looks like her idea was a great one.

More than twenty girls participated in the inaugural camp and it looks like they had a fantastic time learning all about fighting fires and being a paramedic.

Awesome job, Rockford Fire Department!
