Record Replay- Dave Mason ‘All Along the Watchtower’

Just about everyone has put their spin on the Jimi Hendrix version of 'All Along the Watchtower.' Even the song's author Bob Dylan said that he tries to stay true to Jimi's definitive take of the song in the liner notes of his 1985 box set, 'Biograph.' Dave Mason will always be able to one-up anyone else though. Dave is the guy you hear playing the acoustic guitar in the Hendrix version. At the time Dave was in the middle quitting and rejoining Traffic during the 'Electric Ladyland' sessions in 1968. The same year he appeared on a couple of songs on the Rolling Stone's classic album 'Beggar's Banquet.' He played some weird oboe thing on 'Street Fighting Man.'
