Park District Shares Potential Plans for Sinnissippi Golf Course
Ever since news broke that the Rockford Park District is seriously considering permanently closing Sinnissippi Golf Course to make up for a looming 1.2 million dollar deficit in 2020, concerned citizens are taking action.
A GoFundMe has been started to buy yard signs that say "Save Sinnissippi Golf Course". A Facebook group called "Save Sinnissippi Golf Course" was created as a avenue for concerned citizens to discuss issues and form a plan of action to save the course.
According to mystateline.com, Jim McDowell, the man who started the Save Sinnissppi Golf Course Facebook group, recently organized a community meeting that included a Q&A with the Rockford Park District's Executive Director Jay Sandine about the future of the course.
At the meeting Sandine provided important financial information about Rockford's golf courses, and also what the future of the space could be if the course does close.
Jay Sandine recently told WTVO,
Maybe Sinnissippi, if it does close, maybe it turns into a nice natural area with walking paths. Maybe it’s a central dog park. Maybe there’s disc golf opportunities. That’s a growing sport that we’re hearing from people and our feedback,
The fate of Sinnissippi Golf Course has still not been decided, but citizens who are working hard to save it feel optimistic that a way will be found to keep it open.
The Rockford Park District Board will be discussing further ways to deal with the budget deficit at their October 8th meeting.
