One of the Best Movies of the 21st Century Was Filmed in Illinois

Movies, such as all things considered art are very subjective.

So when going into a "Best Movie" list by any website you should already know you're going to need to take that information with a rather large grain of salt.

As in, what you might think is the "best" isn't always what someone else thinks is the "best."

However, I have a difficult time, truth be told, not understanding why someone wouldn't agree with what I surmise is the very best of something, especially when it comes to movies.

I have spent a lot of my life watching movies, probably a lot like you. I mean, you're here, aren't you? So I guess you probably have at least a passing interest in flicks.

Anyway, I have always had a soft spot for movies filmed in my own backyard, AKA anywhere in Illinois.

Some of my favorite Illinois filmed flicks include The Blues Brothers, Home Alone, The Breakfast Club, and The Fugitive.

While all of those are classics, none of them were made in the 21st century. However, one of the greatest movies released in the past 21 or so odd years made a "best of" list and it was filmed in Illinois too.

It was so popular, that it overshadowed the first one, and the star of the movie actually won an Academy Award for his performance, sadly posthumously.

I'm talking about The Dark Knight. The Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne as Caped Crusader flick, second in the Christoper Nolan Batman trilogy of films.

While Bale was giving us his best American Psycho Bruce Wayne performance Heath Ledger really shined in an iconic performance as the villainous Joker.

The thing that stood out most was the Chicagoness that exuded throughout Nolan's Gotham City. If you grew up or at least visited The Windy City you could see how important the landscape was to the movie.

The Dark Knight was so good, that Yardbarker listed it as one of The 21 Best Movies of the 21st Century (So Far) saying:

Superhero movies aren't cinema? Did Scorsese even watch The Dark Knight? Christopher Nolan's take on the caped crusader is quite possibly the most cinematic movie of the 21st century: big, bold, and Holy Batman, have you seen the performances?

It also raked in the dough at the box office and was critically acclaimed by critics.

So the question is, have you seen The Dark Knight? If not, what are you waiting for? It's not only one of the greatest flicks of the past 20 years, but it's probably the greatest Chicago movie ever made.
