Oil Pulling is all the rage, but is it really all that it is cracked up to be? I'm putting the new fad to the test. Here's my story.

I'm sure you are asking yourself what in the world is Oil Pulling? It is an age-old remedy that uses natural substances to clean and detoxify your teeth and gums. There are also many other health benefits to Oil Pulling. It is also believed that it can help reduce symptoms of a hangover, reduce inflammation of arthritis, support normal kidney function and more. Almost sounds too good to be true doesn't it?

I had to investigate. I asked my sister Sam what she thought. She has been doing this for quite a while using coconut oil. She also uses the coconut oil as a moisturizer. I thought smothering myself with coconut oil was strange, but once I tried it I was hooked. Will this be how it is with oil pulling?

I trust her opinion greatly, but the idea of swishing around oil in my mouth for 20 minutes repulses me. You can use sesame oil, sunflower oil, olive oil or even coconut oil. Coconut oil is most popular because it is sweeter than the others and has a more pleasant taste. I'm still not sold. But I'll give it a go. Steps to follow are:

1. Put 1-2 teaspoons of oil into mouth. Ugh, I'm dreading this.

2. Swish for 20 minutes. Really 20 minutes!? This sounds like an eternity.

3. Spit oil into the trash can. Don't spit in the sink! It will clog your drains.

4. Rinse well with warm water. The light at the end of the tunnel.

5. Brush well. Victory is mine.

Well, I tried. That was repulsive. I could not keep that oil in my mouth at all. Sweet baby Jesus I thought I was going to throw up all over the place. All I got was a sour taste in my mouth. Does it work? Well, you give it a go and see how it works for you.
