Have you heard that old saying? There are two certainties in life: death and taxes. The state of Illinois definitely lives by the second one for sure. The lawmakers in our state have no problem taxing their residents. I don't understand why they keep doing it.

I guess the state of Illinois will keep raising taxes every year until all of our paychecks go directly to their coffers. Why did the government legalize marijuana and add more casinos? Isn't millions of dollars being generated for the Land of Lincoln?

The state of Illinois is famous for its corrupt government. I wish someone would finally put term limits on these lawmakers. That way, they don't sit in office for years lining their pockets while emptying ours.

Illinois residents will face a slew of new and increased taxes on various everyday items and services starting on July 1.

\Everything from gas to sports gambling to tobacco products will be affected, namely, meant to balance the state’s budget for the fiscal year 2026.

Here are the new taxes coming to Illinois on July 1st...

Gas Tax

  • 47 to 48 cents (gas)
  • 54 to 55 cents (diesel)

Smoking Products

  • 36% to 45%

Sports Betting

  • 25 cents for 1st $20 million
  • 50 cents for over $20 million

Short Term Rental

  • Increased to hotel tax level

Telecommunications

  • 7% to 8.65%
