We thought we had a pretty big weather event when strong rain and winds whipped through the Rockford area on Monday.

Little did we know we would have not one but two tornadoes touch down in Rockford that day.

Up until now, we also didn't know 14 different tornadoes would come rolling through Northern Illinois.

That is an astounding number. The National Weather Service survey team says "it confirmed a total of 15 tornado touchdowns in its forecast region, including one in the northwestern Indiana town of Kentland."

The damage from the tornadoes in Rockford was severe. A drive down Guilford Road by Mauh-Nah-Tee-See Country Club reveals what used to be an area filled with copious amounts of trees. Now, those trees are mostly stumps.

Rock Valley College and other businesses in the Rockford area sustained major damage too.

There were many without electricity and some without water or phones. Any way you shake it, the Derecho weather event we experienced last Monday, will probably just be a footnote in what has been one of the craziest years of our lives.
