Midwest Family Learns a Mama Bear & Cubs Have Taken Over Backyard
It's nice to have a house and a backyard, but it's important to understand that it's only yours if a mama bear and her cubs haven't laid claim to it like happened to a Midwestern family recently.
This cute bear moment happened recently in Duluth (love all the snow, Minnesota). Hannah McIntyre shared video of what she saw out of her back window. It was an apex predator mother and her very young cubs.
Over the past few years, we've seen the bear population in Missouri grow to what many believe may be 1,000. That's nothing compared to Minnesota as their Department of Natural Resources estimates there are between 12,000 and 15,000 black bears within their borders. It's actually rare to NOT see a bear in that northern part of the Midwest. They also report that the bear population there is expanding southward which is why we've seen some bears even in northern Missouri.
This family did the right thing and quietly observed the bears and left them alone. Also a good idea to alert fish and wildlife authorities in the event that bears like this get too close to humans so both the animals and people can be protected.
