Mayor McNamara Issues Message of Hope for Rockford in 2021
2020 was a ROUGH year for Rockford, and I'm not just talking about dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.
Rockford saw our fair share of civil unrest, tragedies, and differences of opinion, but I think we have to acknowledge some of the bright moments we saw dawn from so much trauma... We saw an outpouring of support for people in need. We saw a renewed focus on shopping local, and ordering carryout from our favorite local restaurants and bars has become a more regular part of our weekly routines. Hundreds of people showed up for the candlelight vigil at Don Carter Lanes this past Saturday to pray for the mass shooting victims and their families, and that, to me, speaks volumes about the Rockford community. In times of trouble, we step up.
Rockford Mayor Tom McNamara shared a similar message of hope for 2021 recently, and I think it's something we all need to watch today to help us get in the right mindset for the year ahead...
Honestly, I can't sit here and say with confidence that I feel optimistic about the year ahead, but I will say staying positive and focusing on the good may be the only way we can get through life right now. We need to continue to support one another in tough times. Mayor Mac truly said it best at the end of his message when he said; "Let's move into this new year with a renewed sense of empathy". Let's do this, Rockford!
