Kevin Smith is in the hospital recovering after suffering a massive heart attack. The 47-year-old actor/director/writer took to Twitter early Monday morning (February 26) to let his fans know what happened.

"After the first show this evening, I had a massive heart attack. The Doctor who saved my life told me I had 100% blockage of my LAD artery (aka “the Widow-Maker”)," he wrote. "If I hadn’t canceled show 2 to go to the hospital, I would’ve died tonight. But for now, I’m still above ground!"

The Clerks director was in Glendale, California shooting a new standup special Sunday night (February 25) but from what he tweeted, it appears as though he only got through one of two sets for the taping before realizing something was very wrong.

Smith has struggled with his weight for a long time and has been publicly open about his health. In 2010, he released a documentary called Too Fat for 40 after getting kicked off a Southwest Airlines flight for being too heavy. He has since made drastic changes to his health, specifically cutting soda and juice out of his diet in 2014 after watching the anti-sugar documentary, Fed Up. Subsequently, the comedian has lost 85 pounds.

Celebrities took to social media to wish Smith a speedy recovery, including Chris Pratt, who credits Clerks as inspiring when he was in high school. See his tweets below.
