Nothing wrong with having a few drinks and having a good time.  Some states like to have more of a good time with drinks than others.

But is Wisconsin really that much more of a drinking state compared to others around the country?

The Jokes About Wisconsin Being Drunk Are Plentiful

That was actually this post that inspired me to look into the "drunkenness" of every state.  Most of the states looked accurate.  College towns really aren't surprising.

Then upon further examination, and thinking it would be a toss-up between Madison, Green Bay, and Milwaukee, the joke was there for Wisconsin.  All of them.

But is it a joke?

Intoxistates.com put together the below interactive map after gathering data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) excessive drinking data.

The red or purple counties show a higher percentage of excess drinking.  As you can see, there is only one county in Wisconsin not in the red.  Way to go Burnett County coming in at 19.5% of people in the county being excessive drinkers, just under the threshold for being in the red.

Wisconsin doesn't have the drunkest county in the country.  That "honor" actually goes to Gallatin, Montana with 26.8% of residents being excessive drinkers.  The top county in Wisconsin really isn't that far away with 26.13% of residents being excessive drinkers.
