Major Chicago Concert Venue Damaged by Tuesday’s Powerful Storms

If you have tickets to a concert at Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre in Tinley Park, Illinois over the next few weeks, keep an eye on your inbox and the venue's social media, because the venue sustained heavy storm damage on Tuesday.

Severe Storms Hit Illinois

Many of us in the Rockford area were bracing ourselves for heavy and damaging storms yesterday, but luckily, the worst of it missed us. The Chicago area, though? Not so much.

Tuesday's severe weather didn't just bring scary skies and strong winds to the Chicago area. The storms caused widespread damage across the south and southwest suburbs including, uprooted trees, damaged homes, downed power lines and widespread power outages.

The National Weather Service has also confirmed that a derecho moved through the Chicago area as well as at least three tornadoes across Illinois.

Here comes the bad news for concertgoers. One of the places that took a serious hit during yesterday's storms was Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre in Tinley Park.

According to ABC7 Chicago, the Tinley Park concert venue was "ripped apart" during Tuesday's storms, and this video confirms the roof sustained serious damage.

This is obviously a big problem when several concerts are still scheduled to take place at the amphitheater over the next two months...so, what happens next?

Concert Updates for Credit Union 1 Amphitheater in Tinley Park

Credit Union 1 Amphitheater has concerts scheduled nearly every week through October 3, with the soonest being Lynyrd Skynyrd this Saturday, August 15.

As I write this, all upcoming shows are still listed on the venue's calendar and no mention of reschedulings or cancellations has been announced yet, but I have a feeling that will change soon.

The venue is likely still determining exactly what was damaged, when repairs can be completed, and, most importantly, whether the property can safely welcome thousands of concertgoers again in just a few days.

Hopefully, crews can get the damage cleaned up and repaired quickly because losing the rest of the summer concert season would be a pretty brutal encore to an already nasty storm.
