4 Rockford Teenagers Arrested with Carload of Guns and Ammo
Rockford Police were able to find a vehicle that was reportedly firing off gunshots around the city and take the suspects into custody.
According to a press release from the Rockford Police Department, officers were responding to a reckless discharge incident that happened earlier in the evening on Wednesday, July 17, when they located the vehicle wanted in the incident around 9:15 pm in the area of Harrison Avenue and Stowmarket Avenue on the southeast side of Rockford.
Rockford PD conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and during the investigation by SCOPE officers recovered "ammunition and a spent shell casing inside the vehicle."
Officers also recovered "additional ammunition, two loaded handguns as well as an AK-47-style pistol," according to the press release.
The following four teenagers were arrested during the traffic stop, and the Winnebago County State's Attorney's Office has authorized the following charges after reviewing the case:
- Javius Catlin, 18, Rockford - charged with Reckless Conduct
- Nazir Haywood, 18, Rockford - charged with Reckless Discharge, Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon (3 cts.), No Valid FOID
- Kevontae Jones, 18, Rockford - charged with Reckless Discharge, Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon (3 cts.), No Valid FOID
- Juvenile Male, 17, Rockford - charged with Reckless Discharge, Obstructing Identification, Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon (3 cts.), No Valid FOID, Probation Violation Warrant
The three 18-year-olds are being held in the Winnebago County Jail, and the 17-year-old was in juvenile detention, according to the press release.
Rockford Police said the charges are "merely accusations and all individuals are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law."
