Around 11 am on April 15, 2026, a 22-year-old man, Lakeivion Blan of Rockford, was on a Facebook Live video stating that he was heading to the "opps block," a phrase commonly associated with rival gang territory.

Investigators immediately responded to the area near Harrison Avenue and Welworth Drive.

Foot Chase Leads to Stolen Gun Recovery

When officers arrived, police say Blan fled on a bicycle and was seen discarding a handgun during the pursuit. According to the RPD, the weapon was later recovered and determined to have been stolen out of Mississippi.

Moments later, officers were able to locate Blan hiding in the basement of an apartment building on Forest View Road, where he was taken into custody without further incident.

Multiple Felony Charges Filed

Following a review by the Winnebago County State's Attorney's Office, Blan now faces multiple felony charges, including unlawful possession of a firearm by a gang member, possession of a stolen firearm, and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.
