Inside Illinois’ Haunted Prison Experience at Old Joliet
If you've always wanted to check out the Old Joliet Prison, but the thought of just going on a tour is a bit too tame, I get it; it never did much for me either. That said, what if you could visit when the Old Joliet Prison becomes the Old Joliet Haunted Prison? Count me in. You should also count anyone who likes going to haunted houses, trails, or anything similar.
History Meets Horror at Old Joliet Prison
There's so much history at that prison, turning it into a haunted house is perfect. If you're looking for other reasons to go, the Old Joliet Haunted Prison is the only haunted house located inside a real abandoned prison. Opening night is set for Saturday, September 20, and the story behind this haunt is off-the-charts nuts, where a vengeful Warden haunts the halls after being killed in a prison uprising. Prisoners, guards, and visitors are all trapped in his twisted nightmare.

Escape Rooms and Secret Bars
There are other options as well, such as Mini Escape Mini Games, which are suitable for two to four people, and Prison Break for solo players up to four. If you're over 21, the Old Joliet Haunted Prison has a few "Secret Bars" where they will serve spooky-themed cocktails. There are also respawn passes, which allow thrillseekers the chance to go through the haunted house a second time, available too.

Ticket Prices and Age Recommendations
Here's the most important part: the Old Joliet Haunted Prison is not recommended for kids under 12, so leave the younger ones at home. General admission passes start at $19.99 for the weekend that Old Joliet Haunted House opens, and they go up in price as Halloween nears. It's one of the more expensive haunted houses out there, but it's worth it.
