BLAST FROM THE PAST: 10 Things Every Illinoisan Wanted as Kids
We asked Illinois residents what the one thing they had to have as kids was, and the answers we got will give you serious nostalgia vibes.
Must-Haves When You Were a Kid
I think it's safe to say the must-have item right now, for both kids and adults, are Stanley cups. My kids plead with me constantly to buy them one, and it's not because they love to drink water, it's because all cool kids have a Stanley cup. (So ridiculous, right?)
All this Stanley cup craziness got me thinking;
For me, it was Guess jeans. There was just something about that triangle patch on my butt that I had to have, and I still remember what my first pair looked like. (I absolutely loved the ankle zippers they had, LOL!)

This morning we asked the same question, and many of the responses we got had me longing to be a kid again.
Here are 10 of my favorites..
I remember having a swatch watch that had a notebook paper design. So cool. Pretty sure I missed out on the watch guard though.
While sports apparel wasn't really my jam as a kid, I do believe I had a Charlotte Hornets Starter jacket ONLY because I liked the colors and didn't want to be the only "loser" without one.
I think I liked Jordache jeans only because of the horse logo and I definitely had some Z-Cavarichis, but aside from Guess, my real love was Girbaud jeans...remember those?
I don't remember having a beloved pair of Nikes, but I sure do remember those friendship safety pins.
Anytime I look at old pictures of me wearing parachute pants, I cringe. What a terrible fashion craze.
Not ashamed to admit that I still have my favorite Cabbage Patch Kid stuffed somewhere, as well as Pound Puppie and a Pound Purrie (cat)!
My mom had a pair of wooden clogs should would wear around the house, and I liked to wear them too. Dang did that hard wood bottom hurt my feet!
I think these three things were cool when I was already hard core into my preppy Ralph Lauren phase.
I've never worn glasses, but I can guarantee I would have been one of these people in the 70s.
How else did kids in the 80s accessorize? Jelly bracelets paired with charm necklaces and bracelets and jelly shoes were LIFE!
