3 Things You Need to Do in the Rockford Area This Memorial Day Weekend

Swimming, parades, and a sweet taste of Fall are all up for grabs in the Rockford area this Memorial Day weekend!

The unofficial kickoff to summer is finally here, and there is NO RAIN in the forecast all weekend long for the Rockford area, so we HAVE to get outside and enjoy every minute of it!

Typically every Memorial Day weekend my family ventures up to our cabin in Wisconsin, but this year we're staying home so we want to do all the fun things. Of course, we'll start the weekend festivities by checking out the Rockford City Market tonight, and we have some backyard grilling and cocktail drinking on our 3-day weekend agenda, but what other stuff should we add to the mix?

3 Things You Need to Do in Rockford This Memorial Day Weekend

The old saying is "American as apple pie", right? Well, what if I told you some of our favorite tastes of Fall, (hello, apple donuts) are available this weekend at Curran's Orchard in Rockford?

A lot of public orchards throughout Illinois open with limited hours during the summer for berry and vegetable picking, but not many serve up some of their best treats at the same time! We better start our weekend taking advantage of this...

Now that we've got our sweet tooth satisfied, we need to find a public pool to splash around in so we don't mooch off our neighbors, right? A handful of public pools in the area are kicking off their summer seasons this weekend including;

• Hurricane Harbor Rockford
• Walt Williamson Pool in Rockton
• Woodstock Water Works

The last thing we absolutely have to do on Memorial Day weekend is to take time to honor the brave people who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

If you love a good parade, the 2023 Rockford Memorial Day Parade will begin at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 29 at 7th Street, and travel to Beattie Park where a special Memorial Day Program will take place immediately following the parade. (See the list of events, here).

Pecatonica will also be holding its annual Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 29 starting at 2 p.m. This parade is a BIG one, so make sure your kids bring bags for all the treats they will receive along the parade route!
