The True Reason for the Season

During the holidays, many of us forget to think about the true reason for the season. Sure, we may go to church on Christmas Eve night or Christmas Day morning, but too often we get all wrapped up, (pun intended), in all the hoopla and forget about the one thing we should be celebrating, the birth of Jesus.

As a parent with young children, I've learned the best way to teach kids something important is to show them in real life. Every year we read a book about the story of Christmas, but do my girls really comprehend what it is all about? This weekend, they are about to find out.

It's been many years since my family drove through the live Nativity that Riverside Community Church in Machesney Park does every December, and I know my kids weren't old enough to remember it. This year they will, and that is exactly why I am putting it on this weekend's to-do list.
