If you want to play this popular Christmas drinking game, keep the booze tame. There's a good chance you may have too many.

What are your Christmas season traditions? Do you have some that you hope your family never stops doing, like cutting down a real tree or opening a gift on Christmas Eve? Is it a candlelight service or driving around town to find the best holiday light displays?

Maybe you have some old and tired traditions and you need something different to do. If you like an at-home gathering of your closest friends and a more casual sip-and-snack type of thing, then I think I found a great drinking game to play.

This game doesn't require much preparation and you only need 2 items for everyone to play, 3 if you count the booze. And, I'm serious about picking some tame booze. This is NOT a drinking game you want to play with,

Or Illinois' other very popular booze,

For many, one sip of Malört induces immediate vomiting.

The Santa Hat Drinking Game

The first thing you need to play this Christmas drinking game is:

You need a TV.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You'll need clear access to the top corners of the TV screen

The second thing you need is:

A Santa hat.

Place the hat on either the left or right corner of the TV and turn it on. No matter what you decide to put on the TV, whenever someone on the screen appears to be 'wearing the Santa hat' everyone takes a drink.

The Instagram post below demonstrates how simple this version of the game is to play. I said "version" because there's another (non-alcoholic) way to play this game with your kids.

A kid-friendly version of this game was mentioned in the comments,

Haven’t tried this as an adult, but I did this when my kids were little and sick during the holidays to get them to take in more fluids- When Daniel Tiger or Peppa Pig wear the hat *Drink*! It kept them hydrated with water or whatever electrolytes needed and they were engaged.
