Meet 20-year-old Illinois native, Carter Coryell.  He might not be able to name a single 90's or early 2000's song, but he is skilled at making you feel very old.

I'll get straight to the point.  Carter is my boyfriend, there's a five year age difference between us, and I realized there are many things that are nostalgic to me that he has never even heard of - like certain songs or artists from my childhood.

Many of us know the 2000s were a time of simplicity.

We spent our days playing with Tamagotchis, watching Spongebob Squarepants, calling friends on our landline house phone, and listening to NSYNC.

For younger generations, the 2000s are just a distant memory. 2000s babies (born after the year 2000) missed out on all the fun stuff we did "back in the day".

They don't know the joy of chasing radio stations to every event for free Wisconsin Dells coupon books, the excitement of waiting for a new CD to come out, and my favorite: the thrill of dial-up internet.

This is me waiting for the computer to power on, but dial-up was up next haha.

I guess this is what people mean when they say, "He's too young for you."  I always thought that saying meant someone is too young in terms of actual age, but now it makes sense.

Carter is too young to know the struggle of downloading new music to an iPod, planning your day around your favorite TV show, or topping up minutes on your flip phone to text your best friend.

I remember because I was born in 1997, but Carter?  He was born in 2002... he doesn't even know who David Archuleta is.  ARE YOU KIDDING ME???

A contestant on the 7th season of American Idol in 2008 - duh!

I feel very old after this conversation happened.  I was talking about celebrities and I asked Carter if he knew who David Archuleta was.  He said, "Uh, some popular singer guy?" Then followed up with, "Is he a member of Big Time Rush?"

At this point, I had my phone out recording.  It was too good not to share with you.

So, to all the 2000s babies out there (including you, Carter), just you wait your turn.  You'll be 25, 30, even 50 years old and someone will call you "old" for the things you love from your childhood.

You may never know the joy of coming home when the street lights come on, but I do envy all the entertainment you have at your fingertips.  If you ever want to experience a little bit of nostalgia, just ask one of us old-timers to show you the ropes.
