One of America’s Best State Parks is Close to Rockford
Sometimes, you need written proof to show how lucky you got it.
I only understood how fantastic this park is once the pandemic hit the US in 2020.
With nothing to do and fighting some all-time high cabin fever, the family and I drove south when Governor Pritzker reopened the state parks.
South from the Rockford area to Starved Rock State Park.
That's where I encountered a breathtaking display of natural beauty, a sight that I hadn't experienced in a long time.
It was nice to get out and away from being cooped up, and apparently, we visited what HomeToGo.com has just called one of the ten best state parks in America.
It's the only state park on the list in Illinois, and according to the rankings, Starved Rock is one of the most picturesque parks, with its towering canyons and 18 magnificent waterfalls. It also has some of the best trails, perfect for hiking and birdwatching.
Both trails and "picturesqueness" categories had Starved Rock in the top five.
Overall, HomeToGo called Starved Rock State Park in Utica the 7th best state park in America.
Closer to home, we discovered that Rock Cut State Park is a hidden gem among America's state parks, a fact confirmed by HomeToGo.
That wasn't the only Illinois entry on the list because Pere Marquette State Park was named, too.
Have you had the pleasure of visiting Starved Rock, Rock Cut, or Pere Marquette? We'd love to hear about your favorite experiences. Share with us.
