Illinois Property Tax Solution That Only Takes Three Decades

Illinois currently boasts the second-highest property taxes in the nation (only New Jersey is worse).

State Senator Neil Anderson (R-Andalusia) and co-sponsor Sen. Dave Syverson (R-Cherry Valley) believe this plan could keep longtime residents from packing their bags. If you’ve been paying property taxes on your single-family home for 30 years, congratulations—you can finally stop!

Nothing screams “fiscal relief” like waiting three decades for a tax break.

Just hang in there for 30 years, and the state might throw you a bone. Meanwhile, new homeowners like my oldest son who just closed on his first home, young families, and anyone without three decades of patience will just keep paying through the nose.

As promising as this may sound, the likelihood of this bill actually passing is pretty slim. Illinois politicians love talking about tax relief but NOTHING EVER HAPPENS!

For now, we'll keep writing those checks dreaming of the day we qualify.

I just texted my son to tell him that 2054 is going to be a great year for him.
