Since today is National Taco Day, I thought it might be a good idea to find the best place for a taco in the Rockford area.

There's also been a rash of closures affecting those of us who love to go out and get a taco. With news of Lucha Cantina, a Rockford favorite for over a decade, and Rusty Taco, a new taco spot that's been around less than a year, some folks might be looking for their next best taco spot.

Rockford Has Lost Several Popular Taco Spots

Couple that with the recent closure of Panchero's, mostly known for their burritos, and National Taco Day in 2026 is going to feel a bit different.

So if you're still up for feeding your face and celebrating Taco Tuesday by checking out the highest-rated taco spot in the Rockford area, you actually need to head to Belvidere.

That's because Google says Marvin's Tacos is the top-reviewed spot with a 4.8 out of 5.

Eric called Marvin's "good and convenient," and Lucinda added, "This is one of the best taco trucks we've had the pleasure to eat at." Wait, taco truck? Yep, Marvin's Tacos isn't actually a restaurant. It's a food truck, but unlike many, you don't have to figure out where it'll be today.

Where to Find Marvin's Tacos in Belvidere

They have a regular home base at 1210 West Locust Street, so they don't have to drive to a new neighborhood daily. The truck does head out for special events and other stops, but during regular business hours, you'll usually find it there. Having a permanent location also makes it easier to order through delivery services like DoorDash.

So while Rockford has lost a few taco joints lately, the area's highest-rated tacos aren't coming from a restaurant at all. You just have to know where the truck is parked.
