I can't be the only one who's been noticing this around Rockford lately, right?

Now that summer is almost here and weather is getting really nice, lots of people are having garage sales around Rockford right now.  I remember a couple years ago everything anybody sold was "priced to sell."  Everything was dirt cheap.

Now?  People are crazy and selling their used stuff for prices even more expensive than retail prices.  That should actually be illegal, lol.

I Can’t Be The Only One Noticing This In Rockford

I was scrolling Facebook Marketplace the other day and came across a garage sale listing here in Rockford that honestly made me think, "insane."  There was a mirror with a price tag at $50.  Yes, $50!  I'm pretty sure I've seen the exact same mirror at Target brand-new for basically the same price.

Rockford, what are we doing?

I understand prices everywhere, even at Goodwill, have gone up.  Groceries are insane, rent is high, and everything is just trying to make extra money however they can.  I'm not mad at people for wanting to get their money back on stuff they bought.  But garage sales used to be different!  The whole point was getting rid of things, making deals, and letting someone enjoy your old stuff without paying retail prices.

Now it feels like some people are pricing things based on emotional attachment instead of reality.  Just because you paid $50 for something three years ago doesn't mean someone wants to buy it use for $50 today.

Part of the fun of garage sales used to be finding random treasures for five bucks and leaving like you won the lottery.  Lately, it feels like I'd be better off shopping at big box stores.  Maybe it's just me, but garage sale and resale culture in Rockford feels completely different now.  Have you noticed it, too?
