Illinois Woman Says Why Taking Breaks From Social Media Is So Healthy
In a time where we live in such a digital-focused society, sometimes it's really, really good to turn off the screen and snap back into reality.
All my life I have been consumed by media and advanced technology.
From the day I was born, my parents always had the coolest gadgets; GameCube, Nintendo Wii, iPads, and my favorite: the computer so I could go on the internet and play Webkinz!
When all these electronics came out, nobody really knew how damaging it could be to our mental health. I'm now starting to find out at the age of 26.

Ever since going viral on the internet in 2012, I have always been sucked into the digital world. Most of my friends are from a simple friend request or message I got on Facebook.
It's crazy how the internet can connect you with people you never thought you'd meet!
You can literally see what people are doing all the time and that's insane, too.
Why Taking a Break From Social Media Is So Healthy
A lot of us fabricate our lives a little bit online. Whether it's to sell a product, be perceived a certain way, or to rack up tons of likes and comments.
For me, I try to be as authentic as possible and be an open book in hopes my content can help at least one person see that others are going through similar struggles as they are.
I used to escape to social media to scroll mindlessly for hours, but now I've found myself silencing my phone notifications, deleting apps, and even shutting off my phone to detox.

It's really not easy, especially since my job requires a ton of screen time on social media, but I feel so much better being "unplugged."
I don't have to see internet drama (which was kinda fun to read lol), worry about responding to private messages, or see all the crime happening in the world. It makes real life more stress-free.

You never know what you'll discover about yourself if you take a break.
