Iowa sure does love their pickles! According to a new study from the grocery ordering service Instacart, the Hawkeye State is one of the top five states that orders pickles the most.

Top States for Pickle Orders

When it comes to states that love pickles, the Midwest absolutely dominates. The majority of the top states with the most pickle orders are located in the middle of the country, and, yes, that does include Iowa! Here's a rundown of the top ten, based on which states have the highest order rate compared to the national average:

  1. North Dakota - +68.2%
  2. South Dakota - +67.6%
  3. Wisconsin - +66.8%
  4. Iowa - +55.6%
  5. West Virginia - +54%
  6. Vermont - +50.3%
  7. Mississippi - +49.7%
  8. Minnesota - +45.6% (tie)
  9. Arkansas - +45.6% (tie)
  10. Kansas - +39.7%

Top Pickle Brands

When it comes to the top pickle brands, the list isn't surprising. The top three overall are Mt. Olive, Vlasic, and Claussen. Vlasic is also one of the brands that's been rising in popularity on Instacart, coming in first place. The other brands that are experiencing the most growth are Grillo's Pickles (2nd place) and OH SNAP! (3rd place).

Across Iowa and most of the Midwest, Vlasic is the top pickle brand. But, three Midwest states buck the trend! Minnesota's top brand is Claussen, North Dakota's is Gedney, and Wisconsin's is Milwaukee.

States With the Least Pickle Orders

On the other end of the spectrum, these are the states with the LOWEST order rates compared to the national average:

  1. Florida: -38.6%
  2. Hawaii: -33.7%
  3. California: -29.2%
  4. Washington, D.C.: -27.1%
  5. New Jersey: -15.7%
