In the interests of fairness (and me wanting to sleep in my own bed instead of the couch), I have to say that my wife Amy makes an apple pie that I consider to be the finest pie I've ever been lucky enough to have placed in front of me.

It's astoundingly good, but she only makes one every couple of years, and one pie every 24 months is probably not enough to get her any Yelp reviews.

The pie that Yelp reviewers name as Illinois' best pie is baked in enough quantities that you could take a road trip right now and grab yourself one to ten of them.

Back on March 14th It Was Pi Day, And A Grocery-Delivery Company Published A Piece On The Top 5 Pies In America, Along With The Favorite Pie Of Each State

Instacart recently determined which pie flavors ruled in each state. To the surprise of absolutely no one, the winner for the United States overall was apple pie with more than 27% of pie buyers reaching for one over all others.

Here in Illinois, cherry pie is the number-one choice for pie buyers and bakers, but it's not just Illinoisans who feel that way. Here are the other states, many of them our neighbors, that are on Team Cherry Pie:

  • Indiana
  • Iowa
  • Kansas
  • Kentucky
  • Michigan
  • Missouri
  • Ohio
  • Oklahoma
  • West Virginia
  • Wisconsin

Now That We've Covered Pies Across The Country, Let's Get To The Pie That Yelp Reviewers Say Is The Best Pie In Illinois

Like I mentioned earlier, this particular pie is somewhat unusual. It's not weird, and it's not filled with some exotic ingredients that you could never find on your own. Many of us have had something very, very similar---but it was around a campfire with a stick in our hands.

Here's what it looks like.

And here's where it comes from.

Spinning J Bakery And Soda Fountain Is 87 Miles From Rockford, At 1000 N. California In Chicago

And Spinning J is the home of what Yelp reviewers call Illinois' best pie, the S'Mores Pie. NBCChicago.com describes the S'Mores Pie like this:

Featuring graham cracker crust, milk chocolate ganache and housemade marshmallow topping, the pie isn't actually served warm - but kept refrigerated, according to the bakery's website.

A half pie runs $18, while a full will cost you $36.

Spinning J doesn't stop its creativity there, though.

It also offers four other different pie flavors - Grasshopper, Coconut Cashew Honey Rum, Key Lime Hibiscus, and a Lady Grey pie featuring purple sweet potato, plus a Guava cheesecake.

Here are a couple more of their gorgeous pies.
