I've got good news and I've got bad news for one Missouri city. First of all, the good news is it was just named the safest place in the state for 2024. The bad news? It's a very short drive away from murder.

What is the new safest city in Missouri for 2024? According to Area Vibes, it's a small community of just over 5,000 residents who live a very peaceful life. I completely understand why it is considered so "safe" as the data shows the violent crime rate there is 95% below the national average. Impressive. Where is it?

Area Vibes says it's Cottleville, Missouri. It's also full of incredible parks.

There's just one tiny little problem with this safe community. It's a short half hour drive to the reigning 'murder capital' of America.

To be fair to both Cottleville and St. Louis, the whole 'murder capital' label is a bit overblown in my opinion. Yes, the violent crime rate in SOME parts of the St. Louis metro area are horrific, but I've never had a bad encounter in the zillion times my family has been to St. Louis.

It also needs to be said that many of the suburbs of St. Louis really are peaceful and safe. I was not surprised to see Cottleville named #1 safest in Missouri and it's not just one list, but many like Home Source that also ranks it peaceful and safe.

I just think it's more than a little bit ironic that the safest place in Missouri is a short 34 minute drive to what most of America thinks of as a murder haven.
