Urgent Recall of Fudge Sold in Illinois Due to Dangerous Mold
There are few things more disgusting in life than when you grab what you're expecting to be a delicious food item only to learn that it's been taken over by mold. It's more than just annoying and now there's an urgent recall in Illinois due to fudge that has the potential to be a mold monster.
The Food and Drug Administration just shared this urgent bulletin today regarding fudge that was widely available in Illinois that should not be consumed for a nasty reason. This alert was issued after someone who bought this fudge in Illinois complained that the box had mold inside and after an investigation, even other sealed packages also had mold.
This fudge was sold at Marshalls stores in Illinois with the following codes:
"Chocolate Fudge with nuts 5.6 Oz marked with the lot 0241500805 with expiration date of 2025/MR/01, lot 0241690105 with expiration date of 2025/MR/17, and lot 0241690205 with expiration date of 2025/MR/17, on the back of the box"

If you have the affected fudge packages, you should return them to the Marshalls store in Illinois where they were purchased. It's advised that you not consume them.
The USDA says that mold on food can be dangerous and cause respiratory problems and even allergic reactions which can be problematic with persons with compromised immune systems. Toxins can spread in food with mold even if you don't see them.
