Big Changes Coming to 23 Illinois Costco Stores in September

The more things change, the more they stay the same. That's actually not true for 23 Costco store locations in Illinois that will be changing in September and I predict many will be unhappy with what's coming.

Let me be clear that I'm not business expert and I have no intention of being a critic either when a store chain decides to make changes. However, I do understand how people react to things and I predict many will not be pleased with the changes Costco is making to memberships that will affect all 23 Illinois store locations.

According to Costco's Customer Service portal, the following changes to memberships will be effective on September 1, 2024. This applies to all Illinois locations, too. The following are membership fee increases:

Gold Star Membership - Currently $60 will increase to $65

Business Membership - Currently $60 will increase to $65

Business Add-on Affiliate Membership - Currently $60 will increase to $65

Executive Membership - Currently $120 will increase to $130

Visual Capitalist says there are currently 23 affected Illinois Costco store locations.

Something important to note. Not only will Costco stores in Illinois start charging new memberships the increased prices as of September 1, 2024, but auto-renewals will also be charged the new fees. So, if you're not happy about the increased membership prices, better take care of that auto-renewal prior to September 1.
