This would be the worst kind of surprise ever. There's an edible cookie dough that's been sold in Missouri that is now under an urgent product recall as it contains something that could trigger a life-threatening allergic reaction.

By the way, the phrase "life-threatening" isn't one I just came up with. It's the exact wording of a bulletin just shared by the Food and Drug Administration. Here's the culprit that is likely in some Missouri refrigerators right now. It's Chocolate Chip Edible Cookie Dough. Note they say it's also been sold in Iowa, but not Illinois.

Here are numbers to look for on the packaging: lot # 32402342 C. The good news is the bulletin says that they are not aware of any illnesses or hospitalizations as a part of this recall as of this writing. The recall is fortunately voluntary by the company.

The FDA says this product may contain undeclared peanuts which might sound minor, but it's a big problem for someone with a peanut allergy:

People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

What do you do if you find this edible cookie dough in your fridge?

The FDA says you can do the following:

Consumers with questions may contact the company at 214-491-6370, Monday through Friday 8am – 5pm central.

For more details and potential updates, make sure to check out the original FDA product recall bulletin.
