There are two amazing facts I've learned today. First, 2 of America's top 10 richest towns are in Illinois. Second, one of those towns is also Ferris Buehler's hometown. Buehler!

20% of America's top 10 richest towns are in Illinois which is remarkable. Veranda ranked how the the other half live using some science from the most recent census. They came up with the top 10 "using data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey, evaluating inflation-adjusted household income data for all U.S. “places,” defined by the Census Bureau". They crunched the average household income which revealed 20 towns in America that are apparently doing better than the rest of us.

Which Illinois places ended up in the top 10 richest towns in America?

Winnetka came in at #9 and Glencoe, Illinois landed at #8. Wait, Glencoe sounds mighty familiar.

That's right. Glencoe was the town featured in Ferris Buehler's Day Off. Side note: it was also featured in the other 80's teen movie Sixteen Candles.

Both Illinois towns came in neck and neck when it comes to household income. Glencoe, Illinois averages $358,543 while Winnetka averages $353,700. Missed it by THAT much.

By the way, Winnetka isn't without it's famous 80's movie connection as it was the hometown of Kevin and his family in Home Alone.

How odd (and awesome) that both of the Illinois towns that are home to some of the wealthiest Americans also are havens for some of the 1980's most iconic movies. How gnarly.
