West Nile Virus can be uneventful for some, but for others it can be deadly. That's the case in Illinois as someone has just passed away shortly after being diagnosed with the virus.

Fox 32 in Chicago shared a video report on YouTube saying that an unnamed resident in Lake County, Illinois just passed away from West Nile Virus making them the first casualty in the state this year.

They report that the person was in their 80's when they became ill and West Nile Virus was confirmed shortly before they passed.

The CDC says up to 70% of West Nile cases are what they term asymptomatic and subclinical meaning for healthy people, it's sometimes difficult to tell they have the virus at all. They warn to watch out for the following symptoms "headache, weakness, myalgia, or arthralgia; gastrointestinal symptoms and a transient maculopapular rash". For the very young, very old and those with compromised immune systems, that's when West Nile Virus can become dangerous like it did for the Lake County, Illinois resident.

As this is a developing story, it will be updated once new information is provided.
