Illinois Scam Warning: Don’t Fall for This New Trick
If scammers would just use their creative powers for good the world would be a better place. Unfortunately, on the path to quick cash with no product, these charlatans have found a new weak point to target on you. Clothes brands.
Keep your guard up when conducting business online
We’ve all known someone who “got a deal” on some fashion label clothes only to find out that the Hilfiger clothes they thought they bought were actually “Hilfinger”..?? Counterfeit clothes are not a new phenomenon. What is new in the age of online immediacy is not counterfeit clothes, but no clothes at all.
Not only do you get nothing, you lose $$ and the scammers have info on your accounts
With everyone looking to save money anywhere they can, you may have searched online for special deals on brand name clothing items, or had these items pop up on a social media ad on sale. With the tariff situation fluid there are products that are made in China that will have their cost go up quite a bit. People are looking to get a deal before those tariff costs kick in. Scammers are aware.
Don't let your desire to believe cloud your common sense
They also know that you may be trying to get ahead of the back to school clothes game before those tariff affected clothing prices rise. With an increase in demand the scammers have created fake retail sites and corresponding social media ads targeting your desire to save and still get the brands and styles you want.

Popular brands like; Nike, Hey Dudes, Michael Kors, Victoria’s Secret, and Ralph Lauren that are made overseas could see price increases very soon. Scammers are creating social media ads with corresponding links to fake retailer pages to order the items you are looking for -not just for a current price- but extra low to draw you in. This is a red flag.
Don't get taken advantage of
When you order the items and pay, the scammers are done with you. You won’t get the items you paid for and you won’t get your money back either. Lose/Lose. As always if it’s too good to be true it is practically always a scam. Know who you are doing business with, and if you want to keep it simple and worry free, shop local, and brick and mortar if you can. Less scams face to face.
