Should you have an appetite for a delicious burger and have a sensitivity to the unseen world, there is a restaurant in Illinois you need to visit. At the corner of 55th Street and Clarendon Hills Road in Clarendon Hills, Illinois is a place that checks both the delicious burger and paranormal activity boxes. The Country House.

The Country House has been around for over a century. Originally it was a tavern and grocery store on the main floor and the owner’s residence was on the second floor. The building has had a few owners since the original, but the current owner has been involved for decades.

The haunting lore focuses on a tragic suicide of a young woman who got into a heated argument with her boyfriend, who was the bartender (back in the 1950’s). She stormed out and steered her speeding car into a tree on the side of the road. This is the woman that people believe they’ve seen wandering around the property. There have also been reports of paranormal pranks, pounding on walls, loud footsteps and babies crying--when no babies are present, much less crying.
